Your 2007 Northern excursion begins at YELLOWKNIFE, in the Western Arctic.
The N.W.T. is made up of mountains, glaciers, precambrian shield,
boreal forest, tundra and polar desert. All of this combined with
the ocean coastline, is spectacular. There are uncounted lakes and
rivers including two of the largest lakes in the world, Great Bear
Lake and Great Slave Lake.
As well as being known for its natural beauty, the N.W.T. is among
the world's largest great wildlife refuges. Eager birdwatchers gather
every summer to view the migration of over 200 species of birds
and waterfowl which are in profusion in many areas.
The Mackenzie River voyage takes you between Hay River and Inuvik
or vice versa. This historic river was first chartered by Alexander
Mackenzie in 1789. You will have the opportunity while travelling
the 1,100 miles to visit a number of historic sites and communities
along the river.
